So you want to start up a domain name. I have spent the last 8 years learning some of the do’s and don’ts and trust me there are a lot of mistakes you can make. Not only is there difficulty in signing up at times but there are questions raised that make life difficult. This is not meant to be a compendium of knowledge but only a guide to help you find your niche and help you make the right decision.

So where do you want to begin? Lets begin with someone that does most of what you want. That is they buy the domain for you and they take care of web hosting and they give you good service. That means you need someone to walk you through it. Probably of all the companies I’ve worked with that makes it simple is NoMonthlyFees. I’ve been with them for about five years now and they make it really easy. All you have to do is visit their page and choose between one of two different type of accounts. One costs you $70 a year and includes your free domain name and the other costs you $100 a year. These will be your annual fees which you will pay each year. The difference is not in service quality but in quantity of benefits.

I’ll try to include some of the difficulties I’ve had with my account over the past five years so you can avoid or figure out how to overcome those same mistakes. I will say that Nomonthly Fees has been easy to work with and easy to deal with. When you do run into difficulties, which does happen at times, they usually respond to your problems within minutes. I had problems with email, subdomains, domain transfer and so on. These are probably common difficulties. Sometimes the fault is on my end and sometimes theirs but they have given me gold service for a good price. More to come.
